Whata Kura

He whatanga tū, he whatanga roa, he whatanga mō ngā kura

ka rewa ake hei kaihaukai mō Matariki

The exhibition title Whata Kura derives from the term Whata Kai, which refers to large elevated platforms used for storing food during important feasts. Symbolic of whanaungatanga and manaakitanga, the adaptation of this term to Whata Kura acknowledges the bringing together of communities to elevate toi māori as a source of nourishment and inspiration. Under the mantle of the Matariki new year, this exhibition creates a space for reflection, sharing, and learning.

Featuring artists Jordyn Daniels, Mac Bell, Tracy Darren Keith, Rakai Karaitiana, Chris Bryant-Toi, Tia Ranginui, Hiria Anderson-Mita, Corrinne Tripp-Larkins, Toni Herangi, Robyn Kahukiwa, Tony Nicholls, Glenn Hauraki, Raewyn Graham, and Israel Birch.
