Mavis Made to Order / Wintec

A Spark Festival tradition, the Design Industry Breakfast will see some of our design-focused presenters gather with other industry professionals, tutors and students alike to discuss past and present projects and to network over a delicious breakfast.

Acclaimed designer Alan Deare of Area Design (and Spark Festival's very own design company) will be asking questions of our five design panellists.

2017 panellists are Jason Little, co-founder of the Sydney design agency For the People, has an interest in making work that matters while fulfilling creativity. Throw in some technology-design crossover and you’ve got a Studio of the Year winner who tackles both the big tech questions and visual communication projects.

Bren Imboden and Luis Viale, of the Queenstown agency Makebardo, find inspiration for their design in a range of unlikely places. Their unique aesthetic has seen them win bronze at the 2016 Designer’s Institute of New Zealand Best Design Awards. They'll be talking about a packaging case study.

Sarah Maxey, a graphic artist and typographic illustrator, worked in the publishing industry before opening her own studio and has seen her distinctive work grace the covers of the New York Times and many literary books.

Kris Sowersby’s typefaces are some of New Zealand’s design treasures. Predominantly self-taught in the art of type, Kris has Certificates of Excellence from the Type Directors Club of New York, membership into the Alliance Graphique Internationale and the 2015 John Britten Black Pin to his name.

The 2017 Design Industry Breakfast is sponsored by Chow Hill.
